Papertrey’s Make It Monday Challenge #286 Coordinating Pairs

This week’s Papertrey Ink challenge is to create a coordinating pair of cards.  This challenge was a fun one, especially since I typically make several cards when I sit down to craft. Why craft only 1 card when you have all of your supplies out.  I’m going to keep this quick.  Supplies are listed below.  Happy crafting!

Supplies:

  • Cardstock:  White 110 lb (Recollections); True Black (Papertrey)
  • Patterned Paper: Still Life: Summer Patterned Paper Collection (Papertrey)
  • Stamps: Make It Market Mini Kit: Still Life Summer (Papertrey)
  • Dies: Thanks and Hello die (My Favorite Things)
  • Ink:  Onyx Black (Versafine);
  • Accessories: Black Embroidery Thread (DMC); Sherbet Shimmer Glitter Drops (Nuvo)

Curtain Call Lead Designer!

I’m feeling very lucky!  I’m this week’s lead designer for the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge!!  You know when you have the pressure of creating something that you want to be really special and then you go through a mountain of cards trying to get the right one.  I’m sparing you the rejects but it was ugly.  The thing that spoke to me the most about the inspiration photo was the strong colors of black, red, and green and then the contrast of patterns between the polka dot wrappers and the shiny candied apples.  There’s lots to be inspired by!

I knew I wanted to use the black polka dot pattern in my card.  I have some washi tape that was the perfect match for the wrapper pattern in the photo.  How often does that happen?  But that meant that I needed to place a bunch of washi tape stripes across my card base.  It was a bit of a pain but on the happy side, I used up some of my overflowing washi stash!  Does that justify me buying 5 more rolls the other day?  I think not.  I also covered over the inside of the card with a piece of white cardstock so I didn’t have an ugly background of torn off washi tape strips showing on the inside of the card.

Next I prepped my card front and attached a piece of fun foam and then ran the front through my die machine with the thanks die-namics.  I also cut out a die cut for my apple.  I’ll tell you secret…I’m short on apple stamps and converted this peach image into a candied apple.  I first inked up the apple with pure poppy and then lightly inked up the top side of the apple stamp with scarlet jewel before stamping it on the die cut.  I then stamped the leaf and stem.  My last addition to the apple was to add some sherbet glimmer glitter drops to it.  I thought about using glossy accents but liked the sparkle from the Nuvo.  I tied a bow around the prepared card front before attaching it to the prepared card base.

I think I’ll use this card for my son’s favorite teacher sometime this fall.  My son’s teachers can never get enough thanks from me.  They do amazing work with kids everyday and seem to figure out how to bring out the best from my boys.  Ok…enough from me.  Hope you’re enjoy all of the lovely cards inspired by the Curtain Call candied apple photo.    My card supplies are listed below.  Happy crafting!
