Another Girl Birthday Card and a Comparison

I decided to try to make a second girl birthday card in keeping with Susan Raihala’s challenge to make 2 different cards with the same stamp set.  She’s also the one who made a card with every stamp set she owns.  She’s my idol.  I would love to do this too….but I am more than a little imitated by the idea.  I’m happy just keeping up with the occasional card challenges.  But I think it’s the only way you know if it’s a stamp set that you want to keep.  See my previous blog to see my thought that purging should be my 2012 goal.

On a side note, I wanted to mention that if you haven’t read any of Susan Raihala’s 3 blogs I strongly urge you to.  She keeps it real, is incredibly supportive of fellow crafters, is so talented, and shares her journey raising a child with special needs.   I’ve been a fan of her cards for years, but what keeps me going back daily is the insight I get into a fellow crafter’s life.

So a few days ago I needed a girl birthday card for my niece and threw one together in short order so I could get the package mailed.  I had an extra card base done and decided to finish it up so I would have an extra card if I needed it later.  The one below is the one I made this morning and the 2nd one is the one I made a few days ago.  So I ended up with 2 different cards using the same stamp set.  They aren’t very different in style but I felt a little confined by the existing card base on the 2nd one.  I still haven’t decided which one I like better.  Do you like one better than the other?  The card details are below.

Hope you are having a great day!

Little Princess Birthday Card

So my niece has a birthday coming up….and she’s going to be turning 8.  So I needed a girly card.  I don’t tend to do those since I have 2 boys and usually have a stash of boy cards.  You know the kind…rockets, construction equipment, dirt, etc.  So that meant I had to dig through my stash and work a little bit to create a card.  I have 2 great sets that are great for young girls, Technique Tuesday’s  My Little Princess  and My Favorite Things’ Princess Birthday.

I love the background paper….I’m not sure who made it since it’s from several years ago, but I picked it up from JoAnne’s.  So that determined the colors I was going to use on the princess, pink, blue, and green.  I also decided every girl needs some bling so I used glitter to edge the sides of the image cardstock and on the ends of the ribbon banner.  The banner looked a little bland without the glitter when placed up next to the image so it needed glitter too.

I think I am the slowest Copic colorer there is.  This is only the 2nd image I’ve colored so I’m happy with the results but definitely need to put things aside and look at it later to pick up the areas that need more work.

Okay, enough blabbing.  The supplies are listed below.
