Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge #19 and Simon Says Stamp’s Wednesday Challenge

The following cards were inspired by Hero Arts’ Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge #19 to include a heart and Simon Says Stamp’s Wednesday Challenge to layer it up. My main focal point of the cards was Hero Arts Renaissance Heart Die. It’s a beautiful die and I used it to create die cuts and to make an impression on the card front. The cards are shown below along with the supply lists in the photo captions. Hope you are able to get some crafty time in this weekend!

Using pink watercolors, I combined various colors of pink watercolors on watercolor cardstock and let it dry before die cutting the heart from it using Hero Arts’ Renaissance Heart die. The white card base was sprayed with gold spritz/spray and left to dry. The be mine sentiment was die cut from cardstock using Penny Black’s Be Mine die and then heat embossed with gold tinsel embossing powder. The card was assembled by attaching the heart die-cut to the card base, a strip of tracing paper was stapled to the card base, and the be mine die-cut was glued to the tracing paper.
Hero Arts’ Renaissance Heart die was used to emboss the gray cardstock. The love die-cut was cut from some watercolor washed cardstock using Papertrey’s Wet Paint love die. The You Always sentiment from Papertrey’s Wet Paint stamp set was stamped on a thin strip of pink cardstock. The heart impression gives the look of an added layer without adding additional cardstock.
The gold heart die-cut was cut from gold shimmer cardstock using Hero Arts’ Renaissance Heart die. The banner was die cut from ivory cardstock using Simon Says Stamp’s Tilted Banners die and stamped with Happily ever after from Papertrey’s Love Lives Here stamp set. The sentiment was attached to the heart die-cut and then attached to a layer of ivory and gold shimmer cardstock and then attached to an ivory cardstock card base. The edges of the upper square card front were distressed for some texture.

Papertrey’s SAF Paper Scraps and Vellum Challenge

Loved Laura’s video for Papertrey’s SAF paper scraps and vellum challenge!  I had a scrap piece of watercolor paper that I had created ages ago that I never found a use for.  I loved the range of colors and was inspired by Laura’s colorful card.  I must have butterflies and vellum still on my mind from my earlier SAF tin card since I decided that the colored watercolor paper would work well for a butterfly.  I created a softer version of the watercolored scrap for the card front.  Supplies are listed below.

Supplies

  • Cardstock:  Hawaiian Shores (Papertrey Ink); Watercolor Paper (Ranger); Stamper’s Select Vellum (Papertrey)
  • Ink:  Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmelade, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, and Seedless Preserves distress ink (Ranger)
  • Dies:  Wet Paint die (Papertrey);  Life is Beautiful die collection (Papertrey)
  • Accessories: Glossy Accents (Ranger)

Papertrey Ink January Blog Hop

This month’s Papertrey blog hop has a very sweetly decorated cookie for inspiration.

I loved the pop of color on the black but decided to reverse it for my card.  I also like the lower left card that has the focal image in the lower left corner…. a favorite spot of mine.  Supplies are listed below.  Happy crafting!

Papertrey’s Make It Monday #253 – Reverse Stenciling

I was feeling inspired after completing my June Blog Hop card to work on Papertrey’s Make It Monday challenge of reverse stenciling.  I was surprised just how pretty the reverse stenciling comes out when you use two or more inks and allow them to blend together!  Too cool!  I also found that I could get good ink coverage without using a brayer if I covered the stencil surface with Versamark.  It seems to keep the ink from beading up.  After I covered the stencil with ink, I hit it pretty heavy with the mini mister…probably too much but it gave it a nice perfect pearls shimmer.  I liked the results of the reverse stenciling so much that I opted to keep the rest of the card simple with just a sentiment.  I popped the sentiment up with fun foam and coated it with glossy accents.

I decided to go with thanks since that’s the 2nd most needed card in my stash.  I probably would have gone for a masculine birthday card but couldn’t quite make it work with the royal velvet color.  I’ve got men in the family that are allergic to purple.  They don’t know what they’re missing!  Supplies are listed below.  Happy crafting!
